Every curriculum document, plan and piece of work is bespoke to Mayfield. Since the arrival of our headteacher in September 2019, we have reviewed and refreshed everything. Every document is written with clear purpose, care and with the aim to build a progressive knowledge and skills based curriculum that ensure the National Curriculum fits our children's context and needs. Moreover, we insist that these documents are never static. They should not sit forever looking nice on a website - they should be adaptable, undergo tweaks and revisions throughout their life and, if necessary, reflect more extensive change if leaders feel the outcomes require this. (Some of the curriculum document examples in the diagrams below have already received developments and tweaks when compared with the current versions that you can read about elsewhere on this website.) We are proud that we are a school responsive to need and that change and reflection are vocabulary which we embrace and use everywhere. School leaders here are taught to be demanding because we never want us to sit still. We are also proud that the curriculum is not a bought scheme or central programme that we blindly adopt or are told to use, without knowing or asking why, or is a jigsaw where a school merely takes lots of bits from different places and glues them together and claims they are 'made by them'. These are made by us.The skill of planning for teaching and learning is a core element of what qualified teachers should do and we see the importance of this. As a result, our curriculum fully reflects our core school intent and what our children need both before Covid-19 and now.
