ARCHIVE CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT: STAGE ONE
Mrs Czarnecka - Subject Focus Mr Denton - Lead Mr Taylor - Trialling & Testing Projects Miss Haythornthwaite - Technical
Our curriculum has been a major school development priority since the arrival of Mr Denton, in September 2019 and we are now into our third evolution/stage as we constantly look to improve and refine what we do. 'Curriculum Craft' (as we term it) has moved from evaluation, to planning, into implementation, into review and refine and has been a focal point for each School Development Plan to the present day. Some of the documents from the previous two stages are captured in archive form in this section of the website, click on the relevant page to see a summary of our work and processes: 1) our initial curriculum review and re-build; 2) making additions and revisions.
We are now into a third stage where we are really able to streamline our documentation and forensically study the precise knowledge within each subject and to ensure it is as tight and progressive as possible.
On each occasion, we have tried to consider two aspects firstly the 'Curriculum Craft' which is basically what we teach and the knowledge we know our children need from their starting point. The second aspect has been what we call 'Classroom Craft' which means how this will look at the point of learning including how we teach, how we build our learning environments and what resources will be used to support the delivery. I suppose you could call this 'What We Learn' and 'How We Learn'.
The best way to see our current curriculum content and coverage is via the various subject pages.
The best summary of Classroom Craft/How We Learn can be found in the TEACHING & LEARNING APPROACH/POLICY which can be downloaded at the base of the page.
During this journey, we have also had to be responsive to how starting points have altered and how gaps have occured during the Covid-19 partial closure and remote learning periods.
At all times, we have been led by the National Curriculum requirements - but now more than ever we are most proud of the way in which we are adapting and being responsive to what we see in our learners. We started with a new curriculum to fit our intent, now we are making that model constantly fit the shifting sands in front of us demonstrated by our learners and their needs.
Below is a simple overview, using orginal version curriculum documents, of what we used behind the scenes and across school to make our new curriculum happen in its first stage.
